5 Quick Tips To Ensure Family Portraits On Your Wedding Day Go Quick And Smoothly
One of the biggest frustrations for the bride and groom after the ceremony on the wedding day is losing family members when they should be around for family portraits. Check these 5 tips that ensure your family portraits on your wedding day go quick and smoothly.
I remember, on my wedding day, losing one of my groomsmen. Everyone was calling out for him, but he was still nowhere to be found, so a few family members left to find him, then we lost those family members, and it became a little mess.
By this time, the bride and groom are in the mood to get through the family portraits quickly so they can finish their bride and groom session and finally celebrate at the party. To ensure this does not happen to you, here are a few quick tips so you can make sure this part of the wedding goes smoothly!
1. Have your officiant make a small announcement before the ceremony starts for the family to stick around after the ceremony.
2. Have a family member who knows everyone as a small “event guide” with the group list to call out and gather around the next group. This is very important, as non of the photographers or even the planner do not know your extended family.
3. If you would like more time for traditional immediate family portraits, preparations or getting ready phases are an excellent time to do so (groom with close family and bride with immediate family). This really helps with feeling less stressed over time and ensures the quality of close family portraits.
4. If you don’t want to deal with any of that stress after the ceremony, doing a first-look photo session and all the family portraits before the ceremony is also a great option. This is actually one of the 8 main reasons to do the first look. Check my blog post – First look – yes or no?
5. Keep the number of family groups as simple as possible so you can keep the time for the traditional family portraits on your wedding day between 10-15 minutes. Photos with friends could be done during the evening part.

These are good tips! Just like you said it’s quite sad when one of the family members is not in the photo especially on a wedding picture so I agree that before the wedding ceremony ends there should be an announcement for phototaking.
