Should you wear a veil on your wedding day?
Today this thing happened to me. My bride-to-be sent me pictures of the dress she will wear to her wedding. I loved it, and I’m really looking forward to this wedding, so I reminded her to wear a veil with the dress. Her response surprised me when she told me: “I’m too old for a veil”. And that’s why I decided to write this blog post, which is addressed to her and all the other brides who can’t decide whether or not to wear a wedding veil.
Before writing this blog, I went through over 200 weddings on my last 3 hard drives. It was interesting for me too because I found out that something is missing if the bride doesn’t have a veil at the wedding.
No law says a bride must wear a wedding veil, but…
You definitely don’t have to wear it at the whole wedding. I’ve had brides who had their wedding veil most of the day and were very happy about it. I’ve had ones that had it for the ceremony and the beginning of the reception. But I’ve also had ones who bought or rented it purely for the photos. And I convinced a lot of them to get it.
Get one just for the photos if you don’t feel like having a bridal veil. Even if it’s just for two or three pictures. I guarantee you won’t regret it. I’m far from an expert on amazing veil shots myself. I know other photographers specializing in that. Though lately, I’ve really started liking them. And that’s why I want to give you an idea of what a veil can be used for.
Ceremony
If you have a long, elegant veil, you can use it when you walk down the aisle. It looks stunning. If we have multiple photographers and can afford to capture different angles, it can work wonders. It’s also beautiful when you walk to the groom, and he unveils you from it.
First look

Portraits
Even if you don’t want to wear a veil to the ceremony, at least wear one for the portraits. If the weather comes out and there is a slight breeze, you can get some gorgeous photos with a veil.
30+ is not a problem
And let the following photos be proof to you that the veil looks fantastic on any bride. All of these are over 35 years old, some almost 50. None of them look ridiculous, and I believe the veil belongs for the wedding. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

It obviously just comes down to personal choice, doesn’t it? I wore a veil at my first wedding and chose to just wear a pretty hair clip on my 2nd. There are so many choices out there these days!
It’s a matter of personal choice, of course, but I think veils do look stunning and they make a lasting impression. They are also get in the way, but like you said, a bride doesn’t have to wear it the entire day
I absolutely love wedding veils. I wish I had opted to have one for my wedding.
I think wedding veils are intimate and special, they really add to the beauty of the bride. But again, it’s up to them, their choice 🙂
My wife used a veil when we got married. It’s kinda mysterious when she wore it and when kissing the bride is up, I kissed her torridly. ha.ha..ha..
I didn’t wear a veil in our wedding ceremony but I definitely did in our portraits. It just boils down to personal preferences.

Hhhhmmmm….you’ve brought up a very good topic for dissection. Personally, I prefer a bride without a veil. I believe it’s something I would like to see more since I have seen the former, all my life.
I think it’s a personal choice if they want to have it or not but I agree that it’ll look good in the photos as well if you had one.
I agree with you! As a minimum, one should wear one for the photos. It simply completes the look and age doesn’t have anything to do with it.
I chose not to wear a veil. I did a headband and it suited me better.
I think all brides should wear a veil if worn properly set so it’s framing their face, not so low that it’s attached to their hair just above the neck. My favorite look is the very full tiered veils of the 60’s.
